The CTO Casing-Tubing Opener is a proven tool for opening collapsed areas in a casing or tubing string. It is deployed on a work string of drill pipe or tubing and is hydraulically activated. This multi-piston hydraulic power tool and anchoring system provide a means to generate significant force at the collapse and drive a coned anvil through the collapse section, opening up
the collapsed area and allowing service tools to pass through.
Simple Operation
Applies pulling loads at the fish
not at the surface
Mitigates limited rig capacity
Mitigates damage to work string
and hoisting equipment due to
tension loads or shock loads
Quick rig up and rig down
compared with surface systems
CPT Components
The CTO Tool is run in the well until the anvil
reaches the top of the collapsed system.
The Anchor is set with right hand rotation.
A ball is dropped from surface to a seat in the
CTO tool and pressure is applied to activate
the power section and begin the initial stroke.
The power section drives the anvil through
the collapsed section.
After each stroke a straight pull releases the anchor and resets the anchor to the run in position.
Then slack off to close the stroke in the power section and reset the anchor. Once the anchor
is reset apply pressure to continue with the next
stroke of the tool.
Continue this operation until the entire length
of the collapsed section has been opened.
